Skin and Allergy Problems in Dogs: "Omega-3 and Omega-6 Fatty Acids
These fatty acids are natural anti-inflammatory agents. They reportedly
are helpful in 20% of allergic dogs. My own experience puts this figure a
little higher. They are certainly worth a try because they are not harmful
and have virtually no side effects. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in fish
oils (especially krill and cod) and omega-6 fatty acids are derived from
plants containing gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), such as oil from the evening
primrose. These supplements are different from those sold to produce a
glossy coat. They tend to reduce inflammation that may lead to skin sores
but are not as effective in reducing itching. "
I must say the above information about Omega 3 / 6 oils works very well.
However do not expect a cure over night it will take up to 2 months to see results.
We used the Omega 3/6 oils on our dog and had fairly positive results, however it
didn't really cure the problem. It wasn't until we used our own formula that we had success
in a short period of time. Our pet has now been skin problem free for 12 months and
going strong.

Dog hot spots are very common in the English sheepdogs, Labrador Retrievers, Newfoundlands. It is actually a secondary bacterial infection which can be superficial or deep. Dog hot spots are fairly common and often occur over the rump area, although they can occur any where on the dog's body. It is a very painful disease. But it might be better if cured in time and correctly.
